Let me give it a shot.

It's actually an interesting and important policy question.

If either you as CORE Chair, or as an individual, believe
that domain names, gTLDs, DNS space (take your pick) are
a "public resource," or part of a "public trust," is it
appropriate for you to assert/acquire intellectual property
ownership through a Trademark application?
