Well, that belief - which is apparently held by a substantial number of 
people - is one of the issues we're trying to address, Derek :)

"Reality" is an odd thing, and a discussion of it is outside the scope of 
this WG :) Seriously, one of the problems any organization faces, 
particularly organizations trying to reconcile multicultural views, is that 
we all see "reality" differently. What will be most productive for a 
working group like this one is to focus on specific issues, identify to the 
best our ability the seriousness of the issues, and propose strategies 
designed to deal with them.
