[wg-c-1] First question

Should there be new gTLDs?

My opinion is that there should be new gTLD. Here are my reasons:

1) A stable registry system cannot depend on one single gTLD registry. If
that registry fails, everything fails. There should be therefore, several
gTLD registries.

At this point it looks quite complicated to take a domain away from Network
Solutions to start a new registry, make it operational and have it in
working order, in case some day there is a problem with the NSi
operations. The only way to assure being in working order is by being in
operation. We therefore new gTLDs to have a new registry (or registries
that will give stability to the system. How many registries and other
concerns are out of the scope of the DC.

2) The name space is quite saturated. New gTLDs would allow new companies
to use in the internet their company name or generic terms that they wish
to use.

Please comment.
