  Interesting information.  Thank you for it!

  There are several reasons that could be attributed for what you seem
to have observed.  But if I was to guess, it would be that Afilias is still

under some legal pressure, and as a consequence wants to be able to
pull these Domain names back, just in case....  My wonder is have any
or all of the supposed registrants been notified of this status, and if so
what have they been actually told?
