There is no harm to independently run name spaces?

There is no harm in failing to have a name resolve to the (correct) IP addres?

And YOU are misunderstanding the role of domain names in the modern 
Internet.  Domain names, not IP addresses, are the user's equivalent to 
telephone numbers.

If you doubt that, turn off the DNS for any random ISP and watch how 
quickly user's react.
