Dear Professor Mueller:

Methinks you've missed the boat again.

Whether the TM interest *demand* it or not, the goal is to protect 
*consumers* from those who would create confusion as to the source of the 
goods or services.

I agree that TM interests should not make such a demand for their own ease 
and convenience.  However, I still believe any model we propose should 
protect those consumer interests.
