[wg-c] CORE

hello ivan and all...
i apologize for not responding earlier. i have been in washington and
chicago and trying to prepare my testimony for the house oversight committee
hearing today on ICANN and the house judiciary committee next week on
internet intellectual property issues.

i hope the following position statement clarifies the recent CORE actions

CORE's purpose in filing intent-to-use service mark applications with the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office regarding certain proposed gTLDs was to
protect the interests of the international internet community. This
preemptive action was designed to prevent certain for-profit entities from
staking a claim to such gTLDs, thereby jeopardizing the ability for these
registries to be managed on a non-profit basis for the benefit of all
internet users. CORE welcomes direction from ICANN as to the dispostion of
these filings, and will act accordingly. core stands ready to transfer its
interest in these applications to icann for
the benefit of the entire internet community."

please pass this on to whomever you wish

best wishes

ken
