He maintains links to his own press clippings on the web, including the US

The actual incidents were in 1997, but the legal proceedings were in 1998.

He did not do "hard time" in the US.  Although he spent about two months
in jail in Canada while resisting extradition, he eventually waived
extradition and worked out a deal which resulted in a sentence of two
years probation and a $100 fine.
