RE: [registrars] February Registrar Meeting

I would propose that we consider the earlier weekend, since the weekend of
the 15-16 falls on President's Day Weekend, which is a holiday in the U.S.
Many US participants may have vacation plans that weekend.

Subject: [registrars] February Registrar Meeting
Importance: High

Because of the growing agenda of items on the 2002 calander (proposed
agenda
to be posted shortly) and only three scheduled ICANN regional meetings,
the
Registrar Executive Committee and Names Council representatives after
reviewing the straw poll conducted during the last election have decided
to
move forward with a February meeting. Listed below are the proposed
location
and dates.

Location: After discussion among the Executive Committee and the Names
Council representatives it was decided that an East Coast location would
be
most prudent. This decision was based upon the recent Marina del Rey
meeting
held on the West Coast and an ICANN event scheduled for Austria during
the
first weekend of February, see http://www.icann-studienkreis.net/.
Given
the high concentration of registration authorities (registrars and
registries) on the East Coast, and no scheduled North American ICANN
regional meeting in 2002, it was proposed that Reston, Virginia would
make
an ideal location based upon its proximity to the Dulles international
airport.

Date: Because this meeting is intended as a supplement (not substitute)
for
the Ghana meeting, we are aiming for an early February date. Based on
the
current agenda a two day meeting will be necessary. To minimize air fare
expenses by providing for a Saturday stay, it is proposed that the
meeting
be held on Friday and Saturday. The two proposed dates are the weekend
of
February 8-9 and 15-16. For those European registrars attending the
Austria
event, the 15-16 seems to be the more attractive date. However, the
Executive Committee and the Names Council representatives would like
feedback before selecting a date. We expect to make a decision shortly
after
reviewing the availability of accommodations.

Because time is of the essence please provide your comments to the list
ASAP.

Best regards,

Michael D. Palage
on behalf of the Executive Committee and Names Council Representatives
