Re: [registrars] Impressions of Skadden Arp

Bob -

As a partner in this firm, and more importantly, the attorney who was involved with the IAHC, I feel compelled to respond to your allegations.

You are correct that Skadden Arps represented the IAHC on a pro bono basis. That representation arose from our association with the Internet Society.

However, once the IAHC began to evolve into POC and CORE, our active representation effectively ended. I am not sure who told you that whatever work product you saw was the work of "interns and new hires" at Skadden Arps, but that was incorrect. Similarly, given our lack of involvment I don't think it is accurate that "other weird things were ostensibly done by Skadden Arps."

I am always willing to shoulder the blame for our work product, but as I am sure you can appreciate I cannot remain silent if we are being blamed for work we did not do.

I hope this clarifies this point, and am happy to talk to you or any other registrar about it.

Best regards.

Dear Colleagues:

Let me get something off my mind.

IAHC was supported by Skadden Arps on a pro bono basis. After the final
report of IAHC, Skadden Arps continued to support POC, leading to the
formation of CORE.

What we experienced we were told was the work of interns or new hires at
Skadden Arps, so may not apply to the present situation. However, we kept
getting jerked around by one application form after another.

I think it was Version #13 that we were given and I gathered all the
documents required, including the insurance certificate. The next version
came along as requested "US$500,000 general liability insurance, including
liability for Intellectual Property liability." No one in POC was ever
able to tell us what IP liability insurance was and who would write
it. There were other weird things which were ostensibly done by Skadden Arps.

I did not speak out on the teleconference and tell you my misgivings,
members with more direct and current knowledge of the firm held them in
high esteem. Nonetheless, I have these misgivings and it is proper that I
not proceed without vetting them with my *partners to be*.

Regards, BobC
