Re: [nc-deletes] two additional issues

John,

This is exactly my point. What has been said on this thread and in the
messages you note below raises at least 4 questionable registrar practices:

1. Not releasing expired domains names.

2. Registering domain names for longer periods than the registrant
requested or agreed to.

3. Not releasing domain names that the registrant has explicitly requested
be canceled.

4. Registrars attempting to re-coup loss as a result of fraud. Although I
personally don't consider this questionable, I do understand that there
needs to be a limit on how long a domain name is held for this purpose.

All I am suggesting is that we don't get caught up in trying to address
individual practices. We'll never get where we need to be that way because
others will always crop up.

We need to address the underlying issues. What I suggested as a
recommendation in my earlier post is an attempt to to do that.

We also need to realize that whole problem won't be solved through deletes
policy. Warehousing and speculation are both subject to concensus policy
under the RAA. These will need to be addressed at some point, but not by
this TF. Let's stick to our charter and make what positive impact we can by
making recommendations that will be implementable.

Tim

Without naming names, I know of at least two parties who became so
exasperated with the impossibility of moving domain names away from
one registrar, that they took out snapbacks and waited for the names
to expire. They were surprised to then find the names in "unpaid names
   department" limbo.

More data follows. Everyday users don't make it onto NC task forces,
but they are out there. How many of these would you want to read
before there was "evidence of a problem"

I particularly like that last one, where the guy says, "Who can I
write to high light that these people are
abusing/breaking the rules. I've written to register.com and not
   received any response."

Imagine that. There are people who believe there are rules that
registrars are supposed to follow for deleting domain names. The
internet seems prone to breed legends of that sort....
