[ga] Montreal meeting - Update

Given recent events, I felt it would be appropriate to reassure everyone
coming to Montreal for the June ICANN meeting.

There are NO mandatory quarantine procedures for people landing in
Canada. However, there are screening agents at airports who check
passenger arriving from high risk areas (such as the ones listed at
www.hc-sc.gc.ca/english/protection/warnings/sars/health_alert4.html).
It is at the discretion of the screening agents to quarantine passengers
showing SARS symptoms to protect the public.

There are NO SARS cases in Montréal and the entire province of Québec,
nor have there ever been any. In Canada, SARS cases have only been
reported in Vancouver and Toronto. Toronto is located 550 kilometres
(350 miles) west of Montreal.

The Province of Québec has taken pre-emptive measures by screening
potential victims and quarantining people who might have been in contact
with SARS patients. As a result, NO cases whatsoever have been
confirmed in Montréal or the Province of Québec.

The World Health Organization has lifted its travel advisory to Toronto
as per www.who.int/mediacentre/notes/2003/np9/en.

The June 2003 ICANN meeting will be held in Montreal from June 22 to 26
as planned. Additional information on is available at:

We look forward to seeing in Montreal.

À la prochaine,

Bernard Turcotte
CIRA President
