It is, first and foremost, important to address the problem of how
to protect the population, the mass of normal, every-day individuals
who will be registering in these new TLDs. When that problem has
been resolved, perhaps the problems of special interests like
trademarks and famous names can be addressed.

The only value of non-profit status for any player in the domain
name game, including registries, is that it allows secrecy in its
proceedings, opacity in its policies, and monopoly in its commercial
practices. Players with responsibility and authority in the domain
name game must be government agencies chartered by legislation or
commercial for-profit entities competing in an open marketplace,
preferably the latter with the necessary dose of the former. Not any
more so-called non-profit entities like ICANN, tricking and
bamboozling the citizenry.
