Re: [ga] America's Cup - ICANN Helps to serve SCROOGE For Xmas... :(

bradley...

as someone from san diego, (and a former member of the
sdyc), who went to both high school & college with
dennis as well as crweing for him at the san diego
yacht club and participated in many international
yacht races over a 10 year period, i would say that
conner has had an international reputation as an
excellent yachtsman and tactician. (in spite of Conner
being both pompous & self centered and very hard to
work with)

dennis was a major force as both a helmsman &
tactician behind successful USA defenses as well as
the person who was ultimately defeated by the
extroardinary work by the austrailian "bond"
syndicate.

your statment regarding the "loss" should be taken in
the context similiar to golf's ryder cup. the usa had
successfullly defended the americas cup for some 50+
years so, naturally a loss was big news.

the same goes for the ryder cup. the competition
became a "big event" only after the cup was reclaimed
by europe afte the usa holding it for a significantly
long time.

happy holidays
