YJ - this is very ignorant icann propaganda.  I assume you have a limited
understanding of the exsisting network infrastructure.  ICANN controls
about 99.6% of the root.  0.4% of the ROOT is run by alternate
confederations.  I believe this number is authoritative, it is based on a
sample size of 17,242 nameservers.  I'll be publishing the full results in
a few weeks - but for now, here's a list to get you all wet.

There may not be not be many people running alternates, but then few dns
administrators realize the can run thier own root - or have options.
