It is not desirable. Let's hope it doesn't become necessary.

Before anybody even thinks of having any meetings such as the one below, don't you think
it would be a good idea to practice having meetings? Here's what I propose:

The domain http://www.worldatlarge.org is now resolving. The final site itself may take
a little time to become manifest, as we're relying on generous volunteerism from the
@Large. So far, the domain name has been donated, hosting has been donated, and a
donation of first class web site design has also been put forward. Whoever wishes to
take part in the potlatch is more than welcome.

While the Site is being developed, it might be a good idea for those interested in
@Large matters, to get to know one another. The distances are vast, and the time zones
vary, but there is a way to start meeting, cheaply, relatively conveniently, and
regularly. I have mentioned it before: http://www.firetalk.com

Through the firetalk system, we can hold teleconferences with greater outreach and
participation than any in ICANN to-date. The system allows for auditorium scenarios
where speakers can debate their views in open, numerous, Assembly. There is also a
simultaneous text chat window which could be used to keep minutes or table questions.
Also, firetalk forum participants can phone each other for private calls during meetings
etc. The system works quite well! I have used it many times, and I'm really impressed
with it. Currently people are putting it to many other uses, from romance-chat to
religious bickering (and some of the forums are quite populous!).

What I am proposing, is that we set up a schedule of times for meetings in a firetalk
forum and publish it on the www.worldatlarge.org At the scheduled times, the forum
will be set up on the firetalk system, and whoever is available/willing can join the
forum to participate in discussion. Of course, participation in the firetalk forum
means you must download the firetalk program from www.firetalk.com The program is free,
and will allow us to communicate effectively, bringing us all into accessible
communication without excessive cost (did I say it was free?)...

If any of this is of interest to anybody reading this post, please note that I will be
posting a test schedule some time this week at www.worldatlarge.org (I will include
directions to the forum, as well as it's name). If anybody has any questions, comments,
or concerns, please feel free to contact me OFFLIST.
