Eric, I agree with you on the issue of privacy regarding *how* one voted. I
don't think anybody has a right to know *how* anybody voted!

On the other hand, I think there's nothing wrong with knowing *who* did
vote. Nobody has clearly stated *why* it's NOT a good idea to know
*who* voted (irrespective of *how* they voted). The voting takes place
in a poll both, and nobody's employer has access to the records of *how*
any individual voted.

HOWEVER, considering the small number of people voting in this WG
to-date, I can understand how some would be hesitant to vote their own truly
personal views (especially considering how much scrutiny this List is receiving) if
a list of voters were to be made public. The results, if one-sided, would serve to
indicate the *how* of the votes cast by the individuals who voted.

This having been said, let me state that mandatory public voter identification
in a group the size of the current WG voter pool is probably NOT a very good idea.
Under the current polling system (Joop's), I believe people do have the option of identifying
themselves *as* voters.

I have tried to be as honest and forthright as possible with all Members of the WG.
If I choose to publicly identify myself as a voter, then that is my prerogative under the
current circumstances in effect on this List.

I have given this issue much reflection, and I will stand with Eric on this one.
Although the current system is not perfect, it will have to suffice for our present purposes
as a WG. Let's face it, we're not making major policy decisions here... just trying to
effectively and HONESTLY elicit relevant input.

We still have much work to do. Perhaps, we should move on.

Sincerely,
