Well, of course, since your company Cisco manufactures most of the
network infrastructure that we all use, Cisco and the other network
infrastructure companies ought to submit to the will of the people as
well, and put themselves under the control of ICANN.  Why don't you
bring that up with John Chambers? After all, to quote you: "If one is
willing to accept the principle that in a democracy sovreignty vests in
the people then one has to accept that such can be a perfectly
acceptable outcome." That's what democracy is all about, eh? If he
doesn't agree, it doesn't matter, because, after all, the will of the
people should take precedence over everything else. 

In fact, if we follow your absurd argument to its logical endpoint, all
commerce should be put under the direct control of a world plebescite --
oh, wait! -- someone tried that, didn't they? :-)

You are once again making up a silly strawman argument.  I have no such
"rubric".
