Re: [wg-c-1] Consensus on having new TLDs?

It is not only important to wait until the famous marks issue has been resolved, but it is imperative that the dispute resolution mechanism be in place prior to the addition of any new gTLDs.

We cannot ignore the importance of intellectual property rights to every industry and the marketplace in general - indeed, many of the discussions in this working group have revolved around claimed rights. Clearly, the protection of legitimate trademark rights against cybersquatters, as well as junior users who may be unaware of the superiority of another's rights, is essential in order for the Internet to be a constructive vehicle for the marketplace.

and how would you feel if paramount, viacom, sony , and other MPAA members
were not included in the famous marks list then tod?

i find it rather impractical to hold up the future expansion of the
internet while a group of people sit around and argue whether their marks
are famous or not.

that process is so open-ended at this point in time that frankly i dont see
a resolution in the forseeable future ....for the simple reason that any
organization or company who feels unjustly excluded from the "list" will
most probably institute suit to require that their marques be included.

i am quite certain that many of your members would seriously consider
individual or joint actions should they be excluded.
