Re: [wg-c-1] Consensus on having new TLDs?

I'm in favor of forming new gTLDs.

Yes, I know this might actually come as a surprise to some of you.
I'm not after process in order to bog down the work here. I do
however strongly believe that things like this should at least wait
until we've had a chance to decide on mechanisms and elect the co-chair
and Reporter. I would rather be slow and sure than rushed and unclear,
inaccurate, unaccountable, and facing the potential of having to do
it all over again once the processes *are* in place.

I'm as much concerned about the legitimacy (perceived as well as
actual) of the decisions made here as I am about the decisions
themselves.

And on legitimacy, I'm sure several of you are bone tired of hearing
me go on about it. Let's try to meet in the middle somewhere if we
can. I have nothing against getting on with things, but at the
same time, there *are* two seperate forces at work here: The actual
legitimacy of the group and the decisions made here, and the
perceived legitimacy. Those creating the latter are not limited to
this WG, or the GA, or even ICANN. The perception will be created
by whomever decides to observe this process, and I very much believe
it would be in everyone's best interest if we had established
mechanisms in place that would limit the misconceptions that could
arise from the way business is being conducted here.

(P.S. to Javier - Thank you for adding me to the wg-c-1 list.)
