Candidate in ICANNATLARGE.COM Interim Panel Election April 2002
I want to thank Joop Teernstra and Andrew McMeikan for the nomination and seconding.
As an ICANN public participant since the beginning in '98, and a voting AtLarge Member in the 2000 election, I have watched the developments of the last several years intently, and with growing concern. The requirement of an AtLarge Membership within the ICANN is no frivolous matter. The AtLarge is a supremely important and worthwhile endeavour and I have carefully considered the magnitue of any personal commitment to such a project at this juncture. It will take time, patience, and much hard work to mould an effective, organized, and efficiently functioning organization. Therefore, it is with great humility and a sense of duty to the task at hand, that I, Sotiris Sotiropoulos do hereby accept my nomination for the AtLarge Supervisory Panel.
Let us all do our part, however small or large it may be, and we'll make this work as it should.
I run a small Internet Consulting and Web Hosting Business which manages numerous web sites and domain properties (with client references available upon request); I teach an after-school Computer Lab (in my very own public school) to children between the ages of 5-12, with 18 currently enrolled little persons; I'm a consulting Fitness Instructor at the Community Centre in the neighbourhood where I've lived all my life, and I am very much involved in the community affairs of my little corner of East York (Toronto, Canada).
ICANN + Sotiris:
I have been an active participant in the ICANN public forums since the creation of the organization in the late autumn of 1998. I am a member of the original AtLarge and voted in the 2000 election. In 2001, I had the privilege of acting as interim Chair [under Y.J. Park] of the DNSO WG Review, where we produced the following document:
CIRA + Sotiris:
Am a member of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, and was present at their first annual meeting in Toronto this past winter.
What kind of AtLarge would I like to see?
I would like to see the kind of AtLarge that becomes a reality. That would be the best kind of AtLarge for me. Those of you already familiar with my forthright involvement in this and other ICANN issues are aware of the time and effort I am willing to devote to productive initiatives. I encourage anyone who is not familiar with myself and has any questions to post them in response to this statement.
I hope you will consider my candidacy for the Supervisory Panel. I am here to offer what service I can to this belated but much-needed inception stage. Let us all make the most of this opportunity.
