Subject: VeriSign and authorization codes

Elana:

You had posed a question at the last transfer task force telephone
conference with respect to whether VeriSign intends to implement
authorization codes as a result of, or in connection with its developement
of the new whois protocol. I have spoken with the appropriate people here
and have learned that, in fact we do intend to implement authorization
codes. However, this is not in connection with our work on whois. Rather,
the intent is for the VeriSign Registry to implement authorization codes
when we move over to EPP. I do not believe that the rollout date for that
has yet been determined. While we will still remain a thin registry model,
the auth. codes will be attached to the domain name, as opposed to the name
holder.

I hope this sufficiently addresses your question. Please let me know if you
have any additional questions.
