This letter is submitted as an endorsement of JAMES LOVE of the Consumer Project on Technology nomination. As the organizer of several nonprofit web sites and as a South African who has campaigned for democracy against racial oligarchy in the 1970s and 80s, I appreciate the need for people like Mr. Love. He and they represent the interests of those people who see the Internet as a means for expanding liberty and not exclusively as a tool for profit.

 

One of the lessons of recent times is that the exclusion of people like Mr. Love from powerful international decision making bodies leads to civil unrest and delegitimates those bodies that would govern through exclusion. Mr. Love's own work in the public interest has received grudging acknowledgement from unlikely sources, including, most recently, Business Week. ICANN has a unique opportunity to choose inclusivity and mass legitimacy by welcoming Mr. Love to its board.
