Re: [ga] Roessler Comments on Mission Paper


(Last posting to the GA today - posting quota.)

Here are three options which were discussed (bad enough not really  
by their merits) on the Names Council: ICANN sould operate...

... for the benefit of the public.
... for the benefit of the users of the global Internet.
... as a coperative effort of registries, registrants, and 
registrars, for their mutual benefit.

Each one of these options leads to vastly different conclusions,  
structures, processes, and priorities.  As long as there isn't even  
a clear consensus which of these fundamental directions ICANN should 
take, trying to find a mission statement which is supported by  
consensus looks pretty impossible.
