Greetings Bass Subscribers!

Bass strike from three basic reasons. They want to eat.
They strike out of reflex. They seem to be angry and want
to protect their territory. Here are ways to trigger those
strikes.

------------------------------------------------------------

 WHY BASS STRIKE

Hunger: Bass are aggressive and see something they want to
eat. Give them almost any lure with a reasonable presentation
and you will likely get a strike. It does not happen often
enough so when you find them hungry, enjoy it.

Reflex: It appears that bass see something out of the corner
of their eye and strike it before it gets away. There is no
time to think about it, if bass can think. They have to strike
quickly or the opportunity is gone. An example is a lure
moving quickly past the bass's hideout. The lure flashes by
right over the log the bass is using for cover. If the bass
does not strike immediately, the opportunity is lost. So
their strike out of reflex or instinct.

Lures to draw reflex strike are often fast moving lures like
JERK FLASH, DIVING FLASH CRANK BAITS or FLASH RUNNER SPINNER
BAITS. Use erratic retrieves. Lures with more flash definitely
get more reaction strikes.

Anger: Sometimes bass strike because they just do not like
that thing in their face. Suppose a worm with a lot of action
like ACTION TAIL is being shaken by the log the bass is using.
The bass seems to think their territory is being invaded by
something making so much commotion. This invader just will not
leave. It just stays there shaking. The only think the bass
can do is bite the intruder and carry it away. Be ready to jerk.

At Sea World, our grandson absolutely refused to see the show
featuring Shamu the killer whale, but he wouldn't tell us why.
No amount of discussion could get him to change his mind.
Later, when we got home, we discovered the reason for his
reluctance. An aunt had told him how exciting the show would
be because "they choose children from the audience to feed
Shamu."

Thanks Shannon!
