[ga-full] Re: Press Releases

This is very regretable. Mr. Walsh has little love for pccf and the isc
under the direction of Mr. Vixie - even less.

I must advise that the press release from the isc is a collection of lies
and misinformation.

The facts are as follows. Last year PCCF did a comprehensive survey of
the entire internet infrastructure. The survey which has been filed as a
public document with ICANN www.icann.org, the ORSC www.open-rsc.org, the
CRTC www.crtc.gc.ca and CERT www.cert.org - privides a detailed data map
of the internet name server infrastructure, including all hostmaster
contacts, and vulnerabilities. A comprehensive statistics page is
available at http://bind1999.pccf.net/stats.html and it's linked to a page
which give the spcific BIND vulnerability that hackers can attack.

Back in November of 1999 - we attempted to communicate with the
hostmasters of record who were running vulnerable versions of the bind
software - (over 84,000) and managed to reach 5,000 dns hostmasters to
advise them they were running vulnerable systems and ask them to
upgrade. We provided them with an indept report the servers they were
running which were vulnerable. We had great success in having those we
contacted upgrade.

However - our attempt was cut short by Paul Vixie, who runs the ISC,
http://www.isc.org/. Paul vixie was also the BIND maintainer - in other
words the man responsible for the internets security holes in the dns
system. Paul incidentally resigned after we exposed to most of the world
that his program was a bit of a mess.

Anyway - paul did everything he could to block us, including placing us on
spam lists, which he controls - the RBL MAPS project. Incidentally - Paul
Vixie also is the sendmail programmer, sendmail is a program with many
security holes which Paul capitalizes on.

We tried to have Paul take on the responsiblity of asking the world to
upgrade the vulnerable BIND versions - but he was not interested.

This year we are running the bind 2000 survey which will dig up and
find private root server confederations and top level domains.

Joe Baptista
