RE: [council] Hostile attack on the dnso.org

Theresa, since the one thing I volunteered for at the LA meeting
dissolved, I would be more than happy to help and will add it to the
minutes and agenda I am preparing and hope to get out today or tomorrow.

I saw his notice - how many e-mails did he send to the Server. It
appears to
me that we should determine whether this constitutes spam, and entails a
strong warning that they were taken off b/c of inappropriate e-mails and
by
spaming they are only making the matter worse for themselves. By
inappropriate, I mean absolutely unacceptable list behavior, including
cases
that in some countries constitute libel, and swearing.

I would like to suggest that the NC, as a priority, post a set of e-mail
principles that must be used if on any DNSO listserves. I'd like Andrew
to
review it as well. the purpose is to provide us, and Elisabeth, with a
means
of taking action without wasting too much time, and having a visible
policy
in place on which we act.

Any volunteers to help me with this?

Theresa

Andrew,

You may have noticed an hostile attack on the dnso.org
-- several tens of identical messages, appearing as from different
members of ga@dnso.org list. You may visit ga@dnso archives.

The server were overloaded, and I had to stop mail service
and clean up hundreds of this spams awaiting distribution to
ga@dnso.org.
I had a chance (chance ?) to see the attack arriving, then
advise immediatelly. If it happen during European night,
we may had have disk troubles and a computer out of order.

The intial message was sent to me, then a number of messages forged,
and appearing each one as sent by a different member of
the ga@dnso.org list. Below you have both quoted completely (headers
included). Let's calculate: 260 messages each sent to 260 members,
it gives 67600 instantaneous messages -- and the sender made an
automate, i.e. he can repeat it as often as he can.

The author is the mostly disruptif one, and is filtered by me
with half a dozen of different addresses he has (but it is endless,
and technically whatever I do he can bypass).
If I do not filter, he offends people, insults, and uses
innacepptable vocabulary (which I cannot even understand !, but
some charitable persons told me).

He is posting from Canada (at least it appears from his text).
What to do ? He is certainly able to continue.

I am awaiting your legal help.
Kind regards,
Elisabeth

|1| Hello:
|1|
|1| I am writing to you concerning the ga@dnso.org list of which you and
I
|1| are members. The list has been broken for some time. I and some
other
|1| people seem incapable of transmitting message to it. Either the
list is
|1| broken - or someone is playing games.
|1|
|1| Either way, broken list or games - this is a disgrace we in the GA
can
|1| not afford.
|1|
|1| I have attempted to contact Elisabeth Porteneuve the list
administrator
|1| to get this fixed - but these attempts have been without success.
|1|
|1| In order to determine what problems there is with the list I am
giving
|1| you notice I will be conducting tests on the list to determine
exactly
|1| what the problem is. You may receive one test message - or 260 - it
all
|1| depends on what Elisabeth Porteneuve has done to the list.
|1|
|1| I also remind all of you, and members of the NC and ICANN board that
|1| having a broken list, or a list on which games are played, does not
|1| inspire confidence in this process.
